Melodom is a free digital audio workstation that works the way Pro Tools users expect. Record, edit, mix and bounce on macOS.
Audio and MIDI, with playlists and comping, fades, clip gain, Beat Detective, undo and an Undo History.
Inserts, sends and busses, automation written live from the faders, and automatic delay compensation.
Punch in, loop record and monitor through the full channel strip. Autosave brings your work back after a crash.
Original effects and instruments built in, and your own CLAP, VST3 and Audio Units with their own editors.
Video with timecode burn-in, surround up to 9.1.6 and Ambisonics, and a Score Editor for notation.
Every action is a command you can run from the command line or hand to an AI agent.
Melodom hosts ARA 2 plug-ins such as Melodyne, in VST3, Audio Unit or CLAP format. Put one on clips or on a whole track: the clips play through it, and Bounce Mix hears its edits. Its window docks at the bottom of the Edit window, as in Pro Tools, and the edits are saved with the session.
Render the mix or every track straight into your FMOD Studio project, and build an event from the timeline.
Turn a sung or played melody, or a drum part, into MIDI notes, or let an ARA plug-in such as Melodyne do it.
Open AAF sessions or import them into yours, and bring in tracks from other sessions with Import Session Data.
A subtractive synth, a drum synth, and a sampler that plays any WAV, AIFF, FLAC, MP3 or OGG file across the keyboard.
Run the built-in processors offline, with Normalize, Reverse, Time Stretch and Varispeed, and save your own presets.
Side-chain key inputs, routing folders, Pro Tools' meter types, and an I/O Setup that names your interface's channels.
Tempo and meter maps with ramps, Beat Detective, detected chords, and Elastic Audio.
Every timecode rate, MIDI Time Code to chase or generate, and MIDI Machine Control.
The mix to WAV, AIFF, FLAC, MP3 or M4A, each with its peak, true peak and loudness in LUFS.
Drive a session from a script without opening the app, or give an AI agent a DAW through Melodom's MCP server.
# Turn the kick down, add an EQ to the bass and bounce the mix.
melodom-cli run --demo \
--cmd 'mix.volume={"track":"Kick","db":-6}' \
--cmd 'mix.insert={"track":"Bass","plugin":"eq_7band"}' \
--bounce mix.wav
# Give Claude a DAW.
claude mcp add melodom -- melodom-cli mcp --demo
Download Melodom 0.8.0 for macOS 11 or later (Apple silicon and Intel), open the DMG and drag Melodom to Applications. Windows and Linux builds will follow once they've been tested.
It isn't notarized yet, so macOS stops it the first time: try to open it once, then click Open Anyway in System Settings › Privacy & Security.
Then press Space to play, ⌘= to switch between Edit and Mix, and open Setup › Keyboard Shortcuts for the rest.
# Melodom 0.8.0 for macOS 11 or later
melodom-0.8.0-macos-universal.dmg # the app
melodom-cli-0.8.0-macos-universal.zip # the command line
Melodom is pre-alpha. Recording, editing, mixing and bouncing work end to end, but it can't exchange sessions with Pro Tools yet, and it isn't ready for paid work.
